Wordroot is a free daily word guessing game. One puzzle a day, six attempts, no account and nothing to install — plus an archive going back to the first puzzle and a library of strategy writing for players who want to get better.
Guess the hidden word within six tries. After each guess, every letter is colour-coded: green means the letter is correct and in the right place, orange means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it does not appear at all. Use those clues to narrow the field, and the on-screen keyboard will track which letters you have ruled out.
A daily puzzle resets at midnight and is the same for every player, so you and everyone else are solving the same word. If one a day is not enough, practice mode gives you unlimited random puzzles that do not affect your streak.
Most players settle on a favourite opening word and never change anything else. The largest single improvement available is learning when to spend a guess on a word that cannot possibly be the answer, in order to test several candidate letters at once — the technique that rescues you from families like _IGHT, where eight words fit the same pattern and guessing hopefully loses the game. Your statistics, streak, rank and settings are stored in your own browser rather than on a server, which means there is no sign-up — and also that clearing your browser data will reset them.
